Improved Hot Weather Combat Uniform

ACU Guide
| Composition of the ACU| IHWCU

The Improved Hot Weather Combat Uniform is the latest release in approved utility uniforms for the U.S. Army. Developed for combat troops deployed in hot climates, the IHWCU makes several modifications to the ACU in materials and construction.

The most noticeable of the changes includes removal of the breast pockets, replacement of the front zipper closure with buttons, and the shoulder sleeve pockets have been replaced by top-flap pockets with horizontal button closures instead of vertical zippers.

For the purposes of this guide, we are treating the IHWCU the same as the ACU in regards to composition, wear, and fit. Both the AR 670-1 and DA PAM 670-1 make no distinction between the two styles of Combat Uniform, other than to say that pieces of the IHWCU should not be mixed with pieces of the ACU, meaning you shouldn't wear IHWCU trousers with the ACU coat, or vice versa. Beyond the coat and trousers, however, all other components of the ACU and IHWCU are identical.
